NOTICE: Temporary position for Hourly Teachers providing instruction to migrant student population.
MONTEREY COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION *TEACHER * *MIGRANT EDUCATION* CLASSIFICATION: Certificated DEFINITION Under the direction of the Migrant Program Specialist and supervision of the Coordinator/Administrator, and in cooperation with classroom teachers, provides supplemental instruction to assigned migrant students and performs other job related tasks as required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform a job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES In cooperation with the classroom teacher, facilitates the academic growth of migrant students assigned in the basic skills and in self esteem; assists the Migrant Education support staff in enrolling, validating and withdrawing migrant students; attends in-service training sessions provided by the Migrant Program Specialists and Regional Office; works only with identified migrant students; assists the Migrant Program Specialist in all Migrant Education activities as assigned; participates in parent involvement activities under the direction of the Migrant Program Specialist; works closely with parents of assigned migrant students; makes periodic home consultation visits; assists in diagnosing and prescribing for the needs of migrant students upon the request of classroom teacher or Migrant Program specialist; provides in-service training for classroom teachers and non-migrant funded aides who work with migrant students; models effective techniques for the delivery of instruction to migrant students for classroom teachers and non-migrant funded teacher aides; assumes the assigned responsibilities of the Migrant Program Specialist in absence of same; supplements the districts' instructional program; teaches after school and on weekends and on a non-traditional schedule; complies with Monterey County Office of Education Board Policies and Administrative Regulations.
OTHER DUTIES Performs other job related tasks as required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, business machines (including computers); vision sufficient to read printed materials; hearing sufficient to conduct in person and telephone conversations; speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone and PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, business machines (including computers); vision sufficient to read printed materials; hearing sufficient to conduct in person and telephone conversations; speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone and addressing groups; physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, reach overhead and run on occasion; physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, from school or home site-to-site), drive an automobile, physical strength sufficient to lift 25 pounds; physical stamina sufficient to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time; mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: * Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university * Valid California Teaching Credential authorizing K-12 multiple subject instruction * Two (2) years classroom teaching experience.
Knowledge of: * Issues relating to socio-cultural elements affecting migrant students and their families.
Ability to: * Organize and plan programs in an effective manner * Interact and maintain cooperative relationships with all levels of staff and the public * Communicate effectively in English and the dominant language of the majority of migrant students served by the district, both orally and in writing.
* Work cooperatively with Migrant parents and district, County and State personnel * Function effectively in a multi-cultural setting.
* Understand and relate to the needs of migrant students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: * One (1) year classroom teaching experience.
* Working with migrant student population * Agencies/services serving migrant families.
Knowledge of: * Instructional material and methodology which best meets the needs of migrant students.
* Current research, literature and programs which impact migrant students.
Ability to: * Work cooperatively with parent and community organizations * Develop curriculum modules and to plan matching instructional activities * Work well independently Job Type: Temporary Pay: $50.
