Job Description Position Summary Responsible for the direct supervision of cellar staff in routine and complex cellar and cleaning procedures and activities in accordance with winemaking and operational policies, to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency and the high quality of all wines produced.
The Cellar Supervisor will also be expected to conduct cellar activities if necessary, due to being short staffed, or if the production schedule is at risk.
Acts as backup in the absence of the Cellar and Warehouse Supervisor or the Cellar Master based on need.
Responsibilities OPERATIONS Prioritizes, facilitates and supervises operational activities in the Cellar and Barrel Room areas.
Supervises and trains cellar workers in the performance of cellar and cleaning procedures, ensuring compliance with all operational policies and procedures.
Implements and ensures compliance with company mandated programs and procedures inclusive of, but not limited to, Safety Programs, Advancement Plans, Operating Procedures Manual and Training Program, Inventory Tracking and Control, Equipment and Asset Inspection Logs, Accident/Incident Reports, and basic budget compliance.
Facilities and/or coordinates facility and equipment repairs and issues with the Maintenance Department.
Ensures that all winery sanitation practices, inclusive of but not limited to, general aesthetics, operational, and storage are adhered to.
Identifies, researches, communicates, and implements process improvement opportunities for operational efficiencies and wine quality assurance.
Determines staffing needs in the area assigned and coordinates with other supervisors to maximize labor resources.
Writes, revises, and updates the Operating Procedures Manual as new techniques and/or equipment are adopted/utilized.
Assures completion of daily performance reports and process tracking logs, analyzing and recommending improvements based on the data.
Performs all levels of wine-work and equipment operation when necessary.
Supports and communicates with all departments influenced by Cellar and Barrel Room operations, including, but not limited to, Winemaking, Safety, Bottling, Administration, Lab, Inventory Analysis, Maintenance, Human Resources and Corporate.
Participates in Company and external educational opportunities to enhance job performance and knowledge.
Maintains knowledge and understanding of hazardous material and safety procedures assuring adherence by subordinate staff.
Ensures proper equipment use, maintenance, and storage for all cellar equipment and completes equipment-tracking logs.
Works with Corporate Safety Manager to ensure all mandatory safety programs are up-to-date and ongoing, and staff is in compliance.
Ensures basic Preventive Maintenance for designated equipment is completed.
Special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
FINANCIAL Operates within bulk cellar budgetary constraints.
Tracks and monitors employee headcount and makes recommendations for changes in required labor needs.
Ensures that adequate supplies, materials and equipment are on hand to support department functions and for adherence to supply/budget targets.
Maintains an accurate inventory of wine additives and cleaning chemicals in compliance with company policy and the Bio Terrorism Act.
Responsible for receipt, inspection and maintenance of barrels inventory.
Approves purchases within delegated monetary authority level.
MANAGEMENT / LEADERSHIP Supervises all day-to-day cellar winemaking activities.
Supervises cellar staff to ensure that proper winemaking and safety procedures are followed.
Promotes teamwork among operations and all winery personnel.
Trains and develops cellar staff in winery operations, including production planning and continual process improvement.
Serves as a resource and mentor to cellar staff in winery operations, leadership and management.
Demonstrates leadership and professionalism and serves as a role model.
Provides leadership and guidance to management and employees to promote and ensure positive employee relations that maximize productivity and efficiency and are consistent with corporate values (integrity, unity, diversity, performance with passion, celebration and commitment to learning) and the targeted culture (open communication, employee involvement, employee commitment, trust, respect, integrity and fairness).
KEY RELATIONSHIPS Winemaking Staff: Communicates directly or through the Cellar Master with the Winemaking Department to assure timely and accurate execution of the Winemaking plan.
Maintenance Department: Coordinates with Maintenance Staff on preventative and emergency maintenance needs.
Lab Enologist: Interfaces with the Lab Enologist to ensure laboratory related Quality Control procedures are properly executed within cellar and crush operations.
Purchasing: Works with Cellar Master to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials.
Human Resources Manager: Advises Human Resources of potential issues that may involve liability on behalf of the company.
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY Direct authority to make decisions relating to routine activities of cellar and crush personnel Direct authority to evacuate the facility in the event of a hazardous situation.
Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED required or equivalent experience Minimum of three years advanced experience in all phases of cellar operations Good English written and verbal communication skills In depth knowledge and understand of all cellar operations Demonstrated ability to coordinate and document workflow Computer proficiency in Excel, Word, E-mail and database applications.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Good supervisory, teamwork and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications Minimum of 1 year management/supervisory experience Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
Knowledge of safety regulations.
Ability to allocate personnel and equipment resources to ensure that production tasks are performed in a timely, efficient and safe manner Physical Requirements/Work Environment Work Environment: Works outdoors/indoors Works in warm/cold climates Works in high places Works on wet surfaces Is exposed to loud noise, fumes and/or toxic chemicals Works near moving, mechanical parts and lift truck traffic Must be able to move up to 55 lbs Irregular shifts, including graveyard, and long hours may be required, particularly during harvest.
Primary office environment may be warehouse/cellar setting Travel Required: 0 – 5% Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and work on a computer for extended periods.
Lifting may be required.

00 - $119,300.
00 This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.
We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future.
An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, the prevailing minimum wage for the location, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.
