*GENERAL POLICIES AND PROVISIONS* To administer financial aid programs within the office of Student Financial Services by managing the daily functions required of specific financial aid programs, including quality control, fund utilization, and program implementation.
Responsible for decision-making processes requiring initiative and judgment in responding to individual needs of students for administration of one or more programs areas within the office of Student Financial Services, and for the development of information and repost as required by financial aid programs.
The Financial Aid Advisor shall have responsibility for meeting with prospective students, creating a positive and friendly environment, facilitating participation in the Financial Aid eligibility process, assisting in determining eligibility for Financial Aid, for Financial Aid record-keeping (hard copy and electronic), and assisting in default prevention.
The Financial Aid Advisor is required to adhere to all applicable state, federal and accrediting agency regulations.
The Financial Aid Advisor is required to adhere to all company policies, and reports directly to the Director of Financial Aid.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* * Informally meets with prospective students on initial visit to: * Relieve fear of the financial aid process * Assure students there is a financial plan for everyone * Provide information to prospective students on completing FAFSA * Interviews prospective students and assist them in securing and/or completing the proper paperwork requirements * Packages student financial aid in Campus Nexus * Completes funding/financial portions of Student Enrollment Agreements (1 hour/week) * Transmits and retrieves electronic reports, ISIRs, originations, refunds, disbursements with COD and read summaries and make corrections when necessary * Maintains log of response files from COD * Meets one on one to counsel loan borrowers within one week of first disbursement * Cooperates with accounting to assure that disbursements and refunds are processed timely * Manages Default management activities weekly * Coordinates assigned student financial aid programs * Makes recommendations for trainings of departmental staff * Monitors standards of quality control for financial aid programs * Reconciles financial aid program accounts with the Accounting Office * Prepares and reviews reports and data for internal and external reporting * Monitors federal/state/institutional fund allocations in the awarding and disbursing * Communicates with federal and state agencies, as well as current and potential students regarding financial aid related issues * Reviews financial aid recipients' academic performance for satisfactory progress, before approving disbursement and takes necessary action if progress is not met, and reviews appeals with Registrar, Program Coordinator and Director * Identifies program issues and works with management to resolve them * Attends meetings, seminars and or/conferences and performs frequent liaison activity with external agencies * Counsels financial aid students and makes decisions regarding awards * Interprets and implements regulations set forth by federal and state agencies * Serves as liaison between the Office of Student Financial Aid and federal and state agencies * Performs other duties as assigned *QUALIFICATIONS*: * Three years of work experience in a closely related field to the duties being performed.
Work experience in Financial Aid preferred * Proficiency in MS Microsoft Office products and ability to learn other software programs * Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties * Must have strong interpersonal and communications skills as well as excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented * Ability to multi-task, demonstrate computational ability, respond effectively in a variety of situations, and work effectively in team situations * Flexibility to work evenings and/ or weekends * Dependable; possess excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills; detail oriented and take pride in quality of work * Positive attitude and good interpersonal skills * Superior verbal and written communication skills * Strong sense of ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality of private personal and business information Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $21.
