*Classification:* Certificated *Salary Level:* Level A-1 to E-28 *Definition:* The Teacher on Special Assignment - New and Visiting Teacher Support Specialist forms partnerships with new and visiting teachers and assists them in curriculum development, classroom management, instructional strategies, and assessment.
The Teacher on Special Assignment will be responsible for providing instructional mentoring, modeling lessons, and coaching as well as assisting visiting teachers to culturally assimilate and provide support unique to teachers in a cultural exchange program.

*Major Duties and Responsibilities:* The following is a list of duties that is representative of the position that includes but is not limited to: ● Coach and assist new and visiting teachers with curriculum development, classroom management, instructional strategies, assessment/data collection of student performance and all aspects of professional development in multiple content areas ● Assist new and visiting teachers in making periodic adjustments after receiving feedback from formative assessments and similar sources ● Assist new and visiting teachers in building an interactive classroom environment focused on the content and learning strategies embedded in the program ● Assist teachers create an instructional program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth by creating classroom schedules, classroom management, and working with paraprofessionals ● Plan, prepare, organize and schedule on-going classroom visits ● Plan, participate in, and facilitate support and training activities for new and visiting teachers ● Provide regular, on-site classroom based coaching support to each teacher following a coaching cycle including model and demonstration, lessons and co-planning and co-teaching.
● Participate in the induction orientation and professional development activities for advisors ● Provide a system of ongoing support for new and visiting teachers as required by the induction program such as monthly/quarterly meetings ● Assist visiting teachers to culturally assimilate and provide support unique to teachers in a cultural exchange program ● Review the requirements of the Induction Program to inform participants of progress towards completion of the Professional Clear Credential requirements, in conjunction with the Program Advisor ● Confer with experienced colleagues and administrators to assist with new and visiting teacher support ● Provide feedback on program effectiveness to site and program administrators ● Assist in the recruitment and matching of Beginning Teachers and Support Providers ● Establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with teachers to support their development as professional educators and demonstrates sensitivity to the needs and feelings of teachers ● Supports opportunities for teachers to observe exemplary practices of peers ● Assist site and county administrators with staff development needs ● Prepare reports, maintains program files and record keeping systems for accountability ● Communicate effectively with staff ● Contribute to and participate in IEP meetings as appropriate ● Maintain punctuality and good attendance ● Willing and able to drive to all MCOE school locations ● Provides a positive environment in which to learn ● Complies with Monterey County Office of Education Board Policies, Administrative Regulations and Superintendent Policies *Other Duties:* Performs other job-related duties as required *Physical and Mental Characteristics:* ● Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position ● Manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, business machines and classroom equipment ● Vision sufficient to read printed materials ● Hearing sufficient to conduct in person and telephone conversations ● Speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone and addressing groups ● Physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and to reach overhead, climb and move quickly or run after a child in an emergency situation ● Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, from school or home site-to-site), drive an automobile, and respond to emergency situations ● Physical strength sufficient to lift 45 pounds alone and more with a two-person lift ● Physical stamina sufficient to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time ● Physical tolerance to be exposed to chemicals, cleansers and foul smells ● Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions *Required Qualifications:* _*Education and Experience:*_ ● Valid California Education Specialist Instruction credential ● Expertise and experience implementing best teaching practices for students with various disabilities ● Expertise and experience in areas related to teaching and coaching adult learners ● Demonstrated success as an educator which has shown professional leadership ● Demonstrated working knowledge and use of instructional strategies for working with the diverse needs of students in multiple content areas _*Knowledge of:*_ ● California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP), Continuum of Teaching Practice and Education Specialist Standard ● Coaching models and resources focused on support of standards-based instruction ● Student with disabilities, assessment practices, instructional strategies, IEP development, progress monitoring, and state requirements for special education teachers ● 21st Century Skills, including creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking, and the importance of integration with next-generation students.
● Diverse learning styles and cultural influences in learning ● First Aid Universal Health Precautions _*Skills and Abilities:*_ ● Work cooperatively with a team ● Utilize reflective coaching in content and pedagogy ● Plan, organize, and conduct coaching activities ● Maintain and improve professional skills and knowledge ● Strong organizational and planning skills ● Handle information in a discreet and confidential manner ● Interact with and maintain cooperative relationships with all levels of staff and the public ● Communicate effectively in the English language both orally and in writing ● Exercise reasonable judgment in unusual circumstances ● Perform First Aid or CPR when necessary _*Licenses and Certifications:*_ ● Possession of an appropriate valid California Driver’s License with evidence of insurability ● First Aid ● CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment Approved: 03/14/2024 Job Type: Full-time Pay: $57,721.
