Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs, the Academic Teacher provides both individual and group instruction; has responsibility for supervising the conduct of inmates while in the classroom and may be called upon to assume general custodial responsibilities in time of emergency; controls all materials and equipment which may be used as weapons; prepare courses of study and daily lesson plans; counsels students as to progress in the instructional program; work with students and help them set and meet educational goals; participates in program evaluation; inspects work areas and searches students for contraband; and plans, assigns and supervises work.
