DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent, Special Education, and in cooperation with the child's physician, serves as a member of the multidisciplinary team in providing assessment, consultation to parents and teachers, program development and consultation services/direct instruction in the area of adapted physical education for identified pupils; uses special instructional procedures as necessary to meet the individual needs of pupils with physical disabilities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES Assesses students who are referred to determine if they qualify for the adapted physical education services; provides consultation and in-service to regular and special education staff in adaptive PE techniques and requirements in order to implement classroom follow through; provides an appropriate and innovative adapted PE program designed to meet individual pupil needs as specified on the IEP in physical fitness, gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills and sports and games achievement; participates in the IEP process from referral to implementation as appropriate, including assessments, report writing IEP meetings and development of goals and objectives; through the provision of appropriate pupil assessments, evaluates and monitors pupil progress and makes periodic reports on the achievement and personal adjustment of identified pupils, in cooperation with the administration, support and teaching staff; inventories, orders, and maintains equipment to ensure safe and appropriate use; maintains accurate written records of pupil progress, goals, and objectives, attendance and parent contacts; continues to keep current on recent research, trends and development in adaptive PE and related fields; completes records accurately; shares materials and plans with others; attends meetings as required; conducts all pupil-related procedures in compliance with State regulations and time lines; attends staff meetings as called by the supervisor; serves as liaison with medical community and other service providers, such as California Childrens' Service (CCS), as needed; and complies with Monterey County Office of Education Board Policies and Administrative Regulations.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position; manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, business machines and make adaptions to equipment and operate specialized equipment designed for persons with physical disabilities; vision sufficient to read printed materials; hearing sufficient to conduct in person and telephone conversations; speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone, in classrooms, and to addressing groups; physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and to reach overhead; physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, from school or home site-to-site), drive an automobile, and respond to emergency situations; physical strength sufficient to lift 45 pounds alone and more with a two-person lift; physical stamina sufficient to sit, walk, or stand for prolonged periods of time; physical tolerance to be exposed to dust, pollen, specific agents/chemicals used for cleaning, cleansers, foul smells; mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience * Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university * California Teaching Credential authorizing performance of service within programs for physically disabled * Possess specialized techniques or skills related to the needs of physically disabled pupils, use and maintenance of assistive communication devices, knowledge of general education curricula kindergarten through high school) * Experience working with children with physical disabilities Knowledge of * First Aid * Strong organizational and planning skills * CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment * Orthopedic equipment Ability to: * Possess an appropriate California operator's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and be insurable * Interact with and maintain cooperative relationships with all levels of staff and the public * Document and quantify objectives of adapted physical education intervention * Communicate effectively in the English language both orally and in writing DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS * CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment * Teaching experience in regular education programs (elementary or secondary) * Experience in developing and/or implementing adapted physical education programs for physically disabled students * Experience in treatment and evaluation of children with developmental delays, neurological and orthopedic disabilities and perceptual disabilities * Ability to speak and write the Spanish language * Ability to use manual sign language systems Please apply on edjoin https://www.
