Background:
I am a travel nurse from Florida who was working at a hospital here in Salinas.
Things at the hospital did not work out, because I disagreed with management and fought for staff and patient safety.
The months of stress and hostility and fear at the facility for months left me emotionally battered.
Finally just before Christmas, they terminated my employment.
This left me with little money, because I had just traveled home to spend time with my mom for the holidays and was needing to come back and work to recover my funds and because Christmas is an expensive holiday for everyone.
Needless to say, it was also the end of the month, so I had to come up with rent for January, which wiped out the remainder of my savings.
Because of all this, I am unable to get another nursing job because of being terminated from that facility and because of the mental torment that I endured there which has left me emotionally traumatized, and I am having to see a psychiatrist regarding.
I applied for unemployment, but the hospital is fighting me on it.
I applied for food stamps and other assistance but have not yet been fully approved and received anything.
So, I have 2 dollars to my name, I have lost 20 lbs in the last month and a half because I cannot afford to eat, and I am likely about to get evicted and will be living in my car if my unemployment issues do not get resolved.
That brings me to the cars that I have.
Automotive Issues: The primary car that I have and drive when I can afford gas is in good pretty good condition.
It is a 2006 Mercedes E350 sedan that I got when my grandfather passed away.
The only issues that I am seeming to have with it at this time is that I am having an oil leak that I need to get looked at and fixed so that it will hold oil and there is a yellow light on the dashboard about traction that I believe is relating to a back left tire sensor.
These are the only two issues I am aware of and that are the priority for me immediately so that I can feel safe driving the car, while I continue to go to appointments and look for work.
The second car that I have, which was the one I was using prior to getting the Mercedes from my grandfather is a 2006 Pontiac G6 GT coupe.
This car honestly was working decently before.
At this time, it is not running and has been sitting for a very long time, but I was able to drive it from Monterey back to Salinas maybe six months ago.
I had given it to a mechanic up there while I was working because he was gonna fix the issues I was having and add a few things and just kind of spruce it up some, but then he had a kid and it was not a priority and so I got it back in a mess.
With the Pontiac, he connected a new radio and back up camera as well as some interior lighting.
The interior lighting does not seem to turn off when the car does.
Regardless the battery continues to die on the car.
Also, he was painting the interior seats black to cover some stains that were on them and so he had unbolted the seats and they remain unbolted.
There is also a warning light on the dash about traction control which I think relates to the brake tension but I am not sure but it prevents the cruise control from being activated.
Then just an overall check because the car has been sitting for such a VERY long time to ensure no other issues so that it can be safely used again.
In total, it was up with him for a year and a half sitting and then now with me for six months.
In the beginning, he did drive it regularly and kept up with it, but two years I would say of inconsistent use is still a long time.
So as you can see, I just need assistance with automotive things that I know nothing about.
I barely know a Philips head screwdriver from the other one.
And with no money, and the price of labor that shop mechanics want, I just do not know what to do.
Cooking Skills/Food: I am so desperate that I am also open to any spare food that people have.
Since I have not been approved for any assistance at this time, I had gone and got maybe 40.
00 worth of canned vegetables and chili and and instant rice and mashed potatoes, which I have stretched to last me quite a while, but I no longer have much of anything left.
Like I said, this has been an amazing diet program for me, and I have lost 20 lbs in just over a month.
So if anyone has canned goods they do not need, I would be happy to take them.
I know there are food banks and things around, but I have not had the gas to get to them, and I did drive to one and sat in the parking lot for two hours and was just too embarrassed to actually go in.
I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be in this situation, and I cannot mentally process the current trials and tribulations I am enduring.
So, I just do the best I can.
But, if you have anything spare, it would be appreciated greatly.
Spare Laptop: Regarding a spare laptop.
I had a really nice 3000.
00 dollar laptop when I came out here to California from florida.
I used it for everything.
While I was inside at work at a hospital in grass valley, someone broke into my car and stole it and my tablet and my Apple Watch and everything out of my car.
Well those things are expensive.
So, I have never had the extra money to get a new one.
Of course, the police never found out anything and are still “investigating.
” But, it is really important to have a laptop during times like this.
Many websites and job applications are formatted for computers and not mobile phones.
I just had to renew my ACLS and BLS certifications and that was a nightmare in the phone because of the small size and difficulty to do simulations and designate correct placements and press correct areas of the screen on the phone, especially with the screen cracked.
Also, I need to find a lawyer to try and take legal action against the employer for wrongful termination and need the laptop for ease of communication with them.
Printing out of documents and scanning and returning them for all these government agencies and jobs and stuff.
Life was just so much easier when I had my laptop.
My room is not really sized to accommodate a desk and a desktop, and if I do get evicted and have to live in my car then a desktop would be very difficult ti utilize, so I think a laptop would be the right way to go again if at all possible.
But, I also know that I cannot be picky, when I have nothing.
In summary, I am hoping that there is someone or a group of people or an organization of people kind out there who remembers during the pandemic when I had to use these cars to drive, needed a laptop, and consumed these meals to go into the unknown at the hospital to care for them and their families, putting my own safety and life at risk to ensure the best outcomes I possibly could for them.
Holding their hand through the good times and through the bad and making sure they never went through those bad times scared or alone! I am just hoping that someone can find it in their heart to now help me during my time of need when I have no money, no food, no hope.
I am away from home, away from my support system, have lost my identity as a person which was as a nurse, and my world is crashing down around me day by day.
I am tired of crying to myself that there is no hope.
There have to be people out there.
There just have to be.
Please find me.
I have put my email, but you can imagine they get lost in the spam folder or in the junk that comes in all the time, so I also put my phone number.
First contacts, I do prefer texts as phone calls can be a little more disruptive if something is going on for either of us, so I tend to just stick with a text with a name introduction and go from there.
By the way, my name is Ryan.
It is a pleasure to meet you all, and I hope to hear from you soon.
Have a blessed day.
